To comply with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) ruling over bloggers getting paid to write
stuff, I offer the following disclosure. If you’re reading my blog, you should
assume the following:
I publish the Energy
Boomer Blog because I like writing about helping folks save money on their
energy bills. However, I would not do this if the blog was not self supporting.
The Energy Boomer Blog is
operated as a business. The IRS will not let folks deduct business expenses
unless you have a profit every few years, so I make a profit.
I make money from articles
that I post on this blog. If I’m not making money from a blog post, then it was
an oversight on my part and it will be corrected soon.
Most every link on this
blog is a paid link. If it is not a paid link, then it was put there as a benefit
to my readers.
Some products I write
about on this blog, I get for free. If I didn’t get it for free, I bought it so
I could review it to make money on the review article posted on my blog.
So how do I make money on the Energy Boomer Blog?
Energy Boomer is an Amazon
affiliate. Birney Summers receives a percentage of the purchase price on
anything you buy through one of the Amazon
links. I make a commission on any items that that you buy after you got there from my blog.
The Energy Boomer has
similar affiliate arrangements with other suppliers of products.
I also get money from folks
like Google who have ads on the site. But, you could probably figure that out
on your own.
I make money selling
advertising space on my blog just like a magazine or newspaper sells
advertising space.
I make money selling my Special
Report: How to Save Money on Air Conditioning.
When I’m given free
products to review I’ll tell you I got free stuff when I review it. The fact
that it is free will not prevent me from writing what I really think about the
product after I have had a chance to try it out. After I write a review, I’ll
either keep the product for my own use, give it away or throw it away.
Just because I get paid to blog does NOT mean I will
give your product or your company a positive review, blog post or endorsement.
As a matter of fact, chances are pretty high that you might not like what I
write about your product.
The Federal
Trade Commission demands that we tell you all this—they think you're idiots
and they are violating the First Amendment with their regulation of what bloggers
publish—but it's also a friendly reminder to Support the Energy Boomer blog by
starting all your Amazon shopping here.
Thanks for reading and
supporting the Energy Boomer blog since March 2007; your comments and thoughtful input are
inspiring.
This disclosure policy was sponsored by Amazon. Yes,
I make money on my disclosure statement as well! Now that we've complied with federal regulations,
how about a little shopping?
