The photograph tells the story better than my words can. It arrived in an email with a joke about speeding. The point is that you should drive more carefully when your dog is with you. Careful driving saves you money at the gas pump.
Most folks make sure that their children are safely belted in the car when they go for a ride. Parents drive noticeably slower and more carefully when there is a child on board. Driving slower and more carefully saves energy and money.
I don’t recall seeing a pet dog securely held in with any kind of restraint. I have seen “Caution Dog On Board” signs on some cars that are transporting the family pet.
Dogs are most often the first to climb aboard and usually left free to roam about in the vehicle. That freedom leaves the dog vulnerable to injury when the driver stomps on the brakes or makes a sharp turn.
You know what kind of look your dog will give you after he has bashed his nose into the dashboard at a stop sign.
To prevent injury to the dog and to avoid the guilt of causing injury to a “dumb animal” folks drive better when there is a dog in the car.
I don’t mean to imply that dogs are dumb. They know when you made them bounce off the ceiling in the back seat. And, they will let you know about it by delivering one of those heart-melting looks.
I do not know the circumstances leading up to the scene in the photograph, but by the looks of the claw marks on that seat, it must have been traumatic.
Save energy and drive as if man’s best friend is always sitting right next to you.
