Our celebration of Independence Day is the anniversary of the signing of the U. S. Constitution.
A long time ago, I raised my right hand and took an oath that “I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Although I am on inactive duty status as a United States Marine, I still consider supporting and defending the constitution part of my current duties.
In my opinion, the excessive influence on our independence by foreign oil is a threat to our constitution.
Our enemies in the War on Terror are funded by oil money. I am convinced that the initial battles in Iraq and Afghanistan, that we are now fighting, are just the first of many battles in what will be a very long Global War on Terror.
We need to either take over control of the crude oil supplies or develop alternatives that are cost effective and produced at home. Or both.
Reducing our dependence on foreign oil means reducing our use of petroleum based gasoline, aircraft fuel and diesel fuel. That means we need replacement transportation fuels.
Conservation and increased efficiency will help, but non-petroleum liquid fuels are needed. The recent developments in Ethanol, Butanol, DMF, and bio-diesel are all very positive steps. Development in this direction needs to continue.
We can use more plug in electric powered cars by building more coal fired power plants.
Many Americans are making the choice to vote independent with their ballots and dollars. Every time you spend money to buy fuel or other energy related products, you can be casting a vote for independence.
You can vote for independence by the choices you make in the free market place that still is America.
Vote at the ballot box for representatives that will support freedom and independence. Elect folks who will support and protect the constitution.
Remember those who have taken the oath of enlistment in the ongoing fight to provide and protect our freedom.
Honor them by celebrating our freedom and enjoying our Independence Holiday.
